James Turner From humble beginnings as a travel agent and intrepid worldwide traveller, James has spent the last eight years developing Hidden Britain in the South East. He has worked extensively with rural communities and is an expert in community development. James leads the Hidden Britain team and works closely with communities and volunteers, planning and structuring projects, sourcing funding, conducting workshops, presenting conferences and everything else it takes to see a local project come to fruition. James holds a degree in Physical Geography from the University of Sussex, is a member of the Tourism Society, is incredibly creative and remains fascinated by the landscape, history and undiscovered corners of Rural Britain. |

Claudia Townsend Claudia completed an MSc in Tourism, Conservation and Sustainable Development in 2001 and since has gained valuable experience in sustainable tourism whilst working with communities, businesses and NGOs in the UK. She has also worked in developing world countries, including Madagascar and Rwanda on projects that identify tourism potential and promote understanding of and good practice in responsible tourism. Claudia enjoys working with volunteers and businesses in our communities and helping them benefit from a well-managed visitor economy. She enjoys exploring and learning about beautiful areas of the country and meeting and working with inspirational people who share her interest in sustainable tourism. |

Kevin Baughen Our marketing and communications guru, Kevin is serious about generating and implementing ideas that genuinely work for our communities. Over the last 16 years, Kevin has built on his academic foundations in business and marketing and has led, managed and delivered every aspect of the marketing mix for both commercial and not-for-profit sectors. He has worked with some of the UK’s largest corporates, major charities and small community groups to get the right messages across to the right audiences. Kevin holds an Executive MBA, is a regular speaker at charity events and writes several blogs for not-for-profit organisations, including UK Fundraising and NCVO Foresight. |

Nicole New After finishing a Geography BA (Hons) Nicole set about working with small and start-up companies to help pick out and target their local markets more effectively. In order to expand her relevant marketing experience among experts she came to Hidden Britain to support the communications activity as a Marketing Executive. She has worked with communities in workshops and training and has also helped keep our online social media training programme up to speed. Nicole has a passion for the environment and a belief in the power of local markets. She makes the most of testing local produce (especially cakes from our local cafe) and is a proud champion of Rural Britain. |

Nick Stewart Nick has worked in the development and marketing of responsible travel and tourism for the past 5 years, including 3 years spent working on rural community-led tourism development as Brecon Beacons National Park's Sustainable Tourism Officer. His experience has been gained across the private and public sectors, in marketing, PR, product development, business development, and destination management. Nick loves exploring, enjoys helping people plan, develop, manage & market distinctive places to visit and thinks that experiences are everything! He holds a first class degree in Environmental Science, a Postgraduate Diploma in Responsible Tourism Management and is currently completing a Diploma in Event Management as he a particular interest in the power of events to shape a destination’s identity, contribute to community well-being and create local economic development and commerce for local businesses. |

The Squirrel Our in-field investigator, the Squirrel has more holidays than the rest of us combined, as our communities whisk him away on non-stop adventures. Since leaving the dray, The Squirrel has built on his natural love of rural areas and his nutty sentiment to capture the hearts of community groups across the nation. He gathers together information on different tourism projects and shares information so that other people can learn from the experiences. The Squirrel, has no formal qualifications, and can regularly be spotted at community events and rural destinations, he writes regularly for our monthly newsletter. |
